Presentations

January 31, 2007 General Comments

One presentation done, many more to go. Pfft.
I used to be able to present fairly well. I actually enjoy them, savor the attention yo. However, after taking a certain professional communication rubbish module in NUS (compulsory), which was supposed to make you a better presenter, I got so conscious of every little detail that I turn into a nervous wreck every time I need to do present something.

Am I standing right? Was my introduction smashing? How about the tone of my voice? Does it sing? Must remember to move my arms but not flap like a hapless chicken! Oh and eye contact! Aw they look bored… sheesh, I suck!

So anyway, the presentation went pretty well last night and I was enjoying myself until the part where I had to explain how Critical Chain Project Time Management works with, wait for it…. charts and numbers! Oh hell. This was where things started to go wrong because my brain kept interrupting my train of thoughts with the same suggestion over and over again, it says “See that those numbers? They are cue for you to roll into one corner and wait to die. Cuz you don’t know them, don’t even bother trying.”

:(

I love Bill Gates!

I am super busy. So busy that I am not exactly sure what’s happening anymore. Like when you’re doing too many tasks in the computer and it starts slowing down? That is happening.

I thought I have a hair appointment today. Good thing I messaged my friend telling her I will be late before stepping out of the house. She called back informing me that the appointment is on next Saturday. If I didn call, I could be very early instead.

Anyway, on to my entry..

New love. I wonder if he does the photography as well. Some people are so mad talented, they make the rest of the world look like crap. By the rest of the world, I mean me. And unless you’re Neil Duerden, I mean you too. :P

New Need. I can’t use a camera phone for work. And apparently, nobody cares a shit about this niche market because we can only choose between a Nokia brick and a Samsung bar of soap. But the dark clouds parts, a ray of golden light pierces through and infiltrates the ground where out sprung a glowing Motorola Slvr L2 in Pink!

Haha, my workplace is almost perfect for now. We just need to station a few Brad Pitts around the area for Chinese New Year decorations.

While I was going through my feeds, I saw this. Handy!

Popped into Momo on Saturday for Paulpaul’s birthday. It was fun! Anyway, I’ll take this as an opportunity to tell y’all what a wonderful friend Paul is. So enigmatic and ever protective of all his girl friends. He watches my back in the clubs and is always around to give sound advice on some of the stupid things I go through. Best thing is he’ll never forces his opinions on anyone however valuable they usually are.

So once again, happy birthday shifu!

Some photos from that night (click for enlarged version cuz the ones here looks pixelated).

The original gang. :D

While we are preparing to pose, my friends were like, “Pris, please don’t act cute hor.”
Then I did that and they were like, “What’s with the sawadeekap pose?”

It’s not a Swawadeekap duh. I was suppose to be Britney Spears.

Britney Spears

And here’s one that’s overflowing with so much love and affection, it makes you wanna stab your eyes.

Such warm fuzzy effects is only possible with these gorgeous photoshop effects.

Webbed Bliss

My friend was telling me what happiness should be. Oh please. Don’t talk to me about happiness. I’m so experienced, the Christians never try to preach me with judgement day. As far as they’re concern, I’m already in heaven.

This was the serious conversation. In a club when I was trying to have fun.

Him: Pris. What are you doing to achieve happiness.
Me: It’s not something you achieve, you should already have it.
Him: I know you are very happy go lucky but what are you doing?
Me: What have I not done?
Him: Why are you not married, you’re not getting any younger.

ZZzzzzz…..

Anyway, I hate it when people tells me how to live my life, not when I feel like there is nothing I want to change. I really don’t need people telling me I need a religion, or that I should stop clubbing, that I need to do this or I shouldn’t be doing that in order to lead a better life. I think it is so rude.

I think I will start telling people how they should live their lives too too. Because honestly, people are not living the best possible life they could have.

Actually there is only one important thing to do. Get married to a computer! Work on it, get it legalized. If impeded by social boundaries or political red tape, you can still proceed to do sexy, life enhancing activities with it..like…
1) Look through the eyes of notcot.org
2) Hold intellectually stimulating conversations with the diggers.
3) Listen to pandora.
4) Read Mil Millington and tell him to break up with his girlfriend already, and that you’re very single and available for him.

Really, I believe you will not be truly happy without all of the above.
Ah hah! Can this be a religion? What do you think Wiki? Yes? Ok then I guess I found a religion and I’m calling it webbed bliss in honor of the friend who started it all.

The current desktop I’m using for work supports resolution 1280×1024. Yay Bliss! Goodbye 1024×768. Or at least until I go home. And I’ve got an extra PC and a lappie sitting in my cubicle right now. Not that I’m using all of them of cuz, but having all these electronic devices in close proximity sends me to my happy place. The heaven I have in mind actually looks like a server room.

Ooh yea close. I remembered walking past a room like this when I was holding a temp job in HP. I was so drawn to it although I didn’t know what it was then. Should have saw it as a sign of what’s to come.

Anyway, the point of this entry is to tell you what my favourite firefox extension is. It’s foxmarks.

The Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer automatically synchronizes your bookmarks between two or more computers running Firefox. It also lets you access your bookmarks from any computer anytime via my.foxmarks.com. An easy-to-use wizard guides you through the quick startup process. Then Foxmarks works silently in the background to keep your bookmarks up-to-date on all your computers.

Simple. Solid. Free. And ready to use.

I’ll never lose my bookmarks again.

Motivational Posters – Not like those you find in Popular bookstore. I especially love focus. Layout wise the website is very A List Apart-ish. Can’t be a bad thing if your website looks like A List Apart because that site preach and practice usability. Unlike that certain Nielson guy. *coughs*

Graffiti – I thought I saw a few works by banksy. Since we’re talking about Banksy, he is going against bootleggers selling prints of his works in ebay by releasing high resolution pictures of some notable works in this new section of his website.

Lastly, here’s how The Simpsons might look like when drawn in manga style – I’m a Simpson fan, I love love love Homer Simpson. D’oh!

Iphone

January 11, 2007 General Comments

The world crazy over the iphone now eh? I’ll just wait till 2008 rolls in and see if it would still be as hot.

Anyway, in case you didn’t know. Multi touch display has been around for some time.

“So let’s not use a stylus, we’re going to use the best pointing device in the world — our fingers. We have invented a new technology called multi-touch. It works like magic, you don’t need a stylus, far more accurate than any interface ever shipped, it ignores touches, mutli-finger gestures, and BOY have we patented it!”- Steve Jobs

So I’m pretty confused about this quote. :/

Survivor
Watched the whole season of Survivor Cook Islands in one day. Aw man, how I miss that Survivor. I was a huge fan of Australlian Outback and got pretty obsessed with Survivor All Stars. I’ve watched a couple of other seasons as well but I think my favourite one now is Cook Islands. Yul is incredibly awesome and Ozzy, oh man…someone needs to make a superhero out of him. Ethan, the survivor of Africa, is quite a huge fan of Ozzy too. check out his hilarious blog entries on Ozzy via the official survival website.

Artist Wallets
My pretty little present for my sister arrived yesterday. I got the one from Stella Im Hultberg, but there are many more works to choose from. I’m really digging the works by Hanna Stouffer. She has the colourful messy style that I always adore.

Sims
Thanks to Reverie, who burnt me a copy of Sims Open for Business and Pets, I’m back to playing Sims 2 again. I’ve got a few gorgeous sims I cannot stop oogling at. And I’ve downloaded Justin Timberlake! Screenshots later!

School
This geeky shy guy who will totally turn red when you talk to him is not in any of my classes this semester. Bummer. Lessons will be blah.

Survivor

January 6, 2007 General Comments

I was a huge survivor fan but lost touch of it after being swamped with work and school and whatnots. I watched one episode of Cook Islands yesterday and was so effin impressed by Yul that I went to youtube searching for clips for the whole season. TheRoundPeg has them all. Yup. And I was up all night catching up with Singapore’s screening. I’m in love with Ozzy and Yul!!!

Yul
Check out Yul’s incredible biography.

Yul Kwon was born in Queens, New York to parents who emigrated from South Korea. The family moved to the West Coast when he was six years old and he was raised in Concord, California. He attended high school at Northgate High in Walnut Creek, California, where he played varsity water polo and track and graduated valedictorian.

Kwon then attended Stanford University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in symbolic systems (theoretical computer science). While at Stanford, he received the James Lyons Award for Service, attended officer candidates school for the U.S. Marine Corps and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Kwon went on to receive his Juris Doctor Degree from Yale Law School, where he served on the editorial board of the Yale Law Journal.

Kwon has enjoyed a diverse career straddling both the private and public sectors in law, business and technology. He practiced a mix of litigation, appellate, transactional and regulatory work at several law firms. He also served as a judicial clerk to a federal judge on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. Additionally, he worked as a legislative aide to Senator Joseph Lieberman in Washington, D.C., where he helped draft sections of the Homeland Security Bill and other technology-related legislation. Several years ago, Kwon decided to switch careers and become a management consultant at McKinsey. From there, he joined Google’s business strategy group and most recently went back into consulting.

Kwon’s favorite hobbies include politics, boxing, ultimate fighting and volunteering with kids. He describes himself as idealistic, compassionate and ambitious. He became passionate about creating awareness for more minority bone marrow donors in the U.S. after launching a major search to find a match for his best friend who was diagnosed with leukemia, but ultimately succumbed to the disease.

Kwon is a member of the Washington, D.C. and California State Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Lambda Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Kwon currently resides in San Mateo, California. His birth date is February 14, 1975.

Despite all that, he seemed pretty humble. Alamak, why is God so biased? How can anyone be THAT perfect!?

Ozzy

He’s like the real life manifestation of Mowgli from the Jungle book. Except this Mowgli can swim like a fish too. Watching him move is mesmerizing. *swoons*

I like Yul better but I thought Ozzy should win because Yul’s gonna be super rich anyway.

Me: I saw my picture in one of my clients website. Haha
Friend: Aiyo!
Friend: But you know that’ll happen one day
Me: No, not like this!
Friend: Seriously, you should stop dancing.
Me: Ya…but can’t you see the humour in this?
Friend: Yea, damn funny.

I thought it was already funny when I had to visit the website I was handling to search for the event address.

Here’s the picture. I’m the one at the back, with the black cap. Caught red handed for day dreaming.

Hip Hop Dance

By the way, my shorts were not fully zipped because I grew bigger. We had to wear baggy pants for two songs before changing into shorts within an interlude in the span of one song. It was during this crucial few minutes when I discovered that I had severely underestimated my weight gain. Luckily, Sherry’s (front right) bling belt was there to save me.

2006 in Review

January 4, 2007 General Comments

I remember saying 2005 was good, 2006 was ever better. I was bumming around half the time but I felt like I’ve accomplished so much more too. Every year should be like this.

Anyway, I’ve switch jobs again. Er yea. Technically speaking, it’s not a switch. I applied for the two at the same time, just that the one I preferred was much slower in getting back to me, it also had more rounds of interviews. Well but the important thing is, each switch gets me wee closer to what I want so it’s all good.

Since I’m not working in town anymore, I have to replace my daily dose of overpriced coffee with one that costs $0.50, overpriced food with cheap hawker fare. I realised I could watch a movie everyday without spending more of my usual daily expenses, assuming that there are enough movies screening in the first place. I know people taking pride in working in swanky places. It’s in CBD area! It has the best view! It’s so high up, it makes my ears pop everytime I take the escalator! I, on the other hand, had enough of that.

Working in the city center does has its perks I suppose, like four Starbucks and two coffee bean outlets to choose from!!! But that’s about it.

Present
I bought my sister, in my opinion, a very cool birthday present. It’s a reprint of a painting done by one of my favourite artist. The best thing is that I thought the girl in the painting looks like my sister! It was supposed to be a surprise present but I think the awesomeness of the present is so overwhelming, there is no need for the surprise element anyway.

The Last Bus
Due to my latest event, we hung out with bus drivers a lot. They told us a lot of amusing stories. Like how one of them like to play pranks on the night bus passengers. He’ll stop at a desserted bus stop, open the door and pretend to talk to someone “boarding” the bus, saying something along the lines of “Auntie ah, so late already why are you out here alone. He’ll then proceed to punch a ticket for her. Hahaha I thought that was hilarious.

School
I’m taking all the non programming modules available. I pass my core programming module last semester due to sheer luck. This time, I’m taking Human Computer Interface, Software Project Management and Information System Management. I skipped a topic on Service Oriented Architecture last semester even though I knew that it was a bad decision in the long run. I think I’ll need that in my job and dissertation later on. Sigh. Must find time to read the textbook which I very happily chugged aside last semester.

Movie
Finally watched The Shining yesterday. It was mild compared to horror films of today where gore, violence and cheap scares prevails. But I’m still very intrigued by it. But it’s by Stanley Kubrick so expect nothing less.

Moolah
Slogged over the holidays and now I’ve got all these cash yet there is nothing I want to buy. I think I might die a rich lady not because I’m successful or capable but because I’m a scrooge.

I spent my countdown on a bus watching Channel 5 on TV mobile. Then again, whoever gets $300 for sitting on a bus for 2.5 hours right? Who needs countdown. Bah.
