orange poppy

Received the Orange Poppies artwork by Kendra, very pretty and dainty. It’s on my desk, looking lovely beside the Miss Van prints my sister got for me.

You know… it’s a wonderful feeling, finding an artist you’re completely crazy over, I’m glad I got Audrey quite obsessed with Kendra. It’s also nice knowing that Ting and a few others became interested in Miss Van through this blog. Miss Van rocks!

A handful of my friends fell in love with Audrey Kawasaki too, but then again, how can you not?

All these talk reminds me of the first time I fell in love with an artist’s work. But that’s another post, another time.

The Simpsons Movie

July 28, 2007 General Comments

I heard from friends that local reviews of the movie aren’t too stellar but I thought it was bloody brilliant.

A friend, who has never watched a Simpsons episode all his life but hates Bart for reasons unfounded, loves it.

Another friend, a monomaniacal movie maniac AND undisputed Simpsons fan, loves it.

Me, the most impartial and reliable person in the whole wide world and beyond, loves it.

The nerds at Imdb loves it.

Chances are, you’ll love it too.

And to end this, here are some classic quotes from the episodes. My favourite character is very obviously Homer. D’oh!

    Homer: D’oh.
Ralph: Me fail English? That’s unpossible.
Homer: I’m normally not a praying man, but if you’re up there, please save me, Superman.
Homer: Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.
Chief Wiggum: They only come out in the night. Or in this case, the day.
Homer: Marge, it takes two to lie. One to lie and one to listen.
Comic Book Guy: Oh, a *sarcasm* detector. Oh, that’s a *really* useful invention!
Homer: What’s the point of going out? We’re just going to wind up back here anyway.
Homer: Oh, I’m in no condition to drive. Wait a minute. I don’t have to listen to myself. I’m drunk.
Homer: Lisa, vampires are make-believe, like elves, gremlins, and Eskimos.

Eye Candy

Eye Candy that is Messenger Live Beta. Looking really clean, polished and Vista-licious! Yum. Get it here.

Anyway, that klutz of a boyfriend dislocated his left foot, less than a week after he dislocated his right. Yea, sounds like one of those incredulous stories that people wave off as unadulterated bullshit, only this time it’s true. So, instead of running about, we stayed indoors and had a quiet evening chatting about our past (uh oh).

I’m sad. I have no skeletons in my closet (believe it or not). I feel shortchanged in life.

Then again, what I don’t consider as skeletons are subjective. I’m just saying I haven’t done anything I wouldn’t admit to.

And my flaws. They are aplenty. Too eager to please, lack of empathy and tolerance for idiots, loves riding on moral high horse…but hey, this is out of topic.

Photographer Ben Thomas makes real cities look like toys – Cityskrinker

Anyway, continuing my Harry Potter rant… revealing characters that did not die is considered a spoiler too. Morons. That’s it. I’m not reading any blogs from now on.

Crazy for Cult Art Show

Movie Maniac friend of mine can identify the following. He’s crazy. Check out this msn nick too.

GONE SHOPPING: In Cinemas 26th July www.goneshoppingthemovie.com says (8:57 AM):
Hmm, I see Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction, Aliens, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Star Wars, Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Napolean Dynamite
Looks like got Fight Club and Clerks, or Jay and Silent Bob (a kevin smith movie)
the one in the black jacket next to the cactus is definitely kevin smith

Anyway, I know about the Harry Potter leak. I saw the article at boingboing and promptly close the browser lest I catch a glimpse of words I shouldn’t. PLEASE refrain from being an idiot, trying to show how you know something about the new book you think the rest of the world is dying to know, by throwing your stupid because they are damn obvious hints around your blog, through twitter, on your msn messages, across your forehead, wherever.

Tell me who died and I will tell you who is going to die next. You. Murdered. By me.

Yogurt Place

July 18, 2007 Joy Comments

The yogurt from Yogurt Place tastes like cream cheese! So so so good! I got my sister to try some last night and she kept asking me, in wide-eyed wonder, if the yogurt’s calorie ridden because it CERTAINLY tastes like cheese! Who needs cream cheese anymore man, this is even better! I can’t believe it myself. Any food that taste like that can’t possibly be healthy. That’s elementary science.

They have a booth at Takashimaya Food Fest, the fest ends 22 Jul. Do drop by to try!

Gold Class

July 16, 2007 Personal Comments

It was nice. No stumbling in the dark, in an adventure to reach your allocated seat. No sinking into the depth of your seat only to have to sit up again for frantic latecomers who will stomp on your foot while they pass because that is the only thing they live for. And you must know this, the Gold Class seats are your fluffy clouds to comfort Heaven… They are wicked!

Yes and about the Harry Potter movie. Please do not tell me you think of me when you see Dolores Umbridge because that is not funny. And very rude. And not to mention downright nasty. *sobs*

Anyway, weekend flashed past in a blink. Bed’s here. Bed’s great. I’m actually looking forward to bedtime now. For Miss Sleep-Is-A-Waste-Of-Time, this is saying a lot.

Something else. Arpita’s Birthday party. Wonderful host that woman.

Stardust

July 12, 2007 Art and Design Comments

Joy Ang, a young artist from Canada. She has the most luscious lips ever! But that’s besides the point.

The painting above has Stardust (novel by Neil Gaiman) written all over it, at least for me. I guess this is my last attempt to visualize the Faerie realm of Stardust before my imagination obliterates with the rude intrusion of Hollywood. I hate the idea of Claire Dane taking over my version of Yvaine (who looks more like Gemma Ward).

This is exactly like the time Daniel Radcliffe murdered my once geeky Harry Potter. *sighs*

By the way, I’m watching Harry Potter later with my colleague. Gold Class! Virgin experience! Yay!

*edits* In case you don’t know who Gemma Ward is, here she is.

gemma

THAT, my friend, is THE face of Yvaine. The Fallen Star from Stardust. British photographer Nick Knight once stated, “Gemma is one of the very, very few models who look as though they come from another dimension.”

There cannot be anyone else.

Fafi

July 10, 2007 Art and Design Comments

I’ve been blogging about a few artists and have grown to love a handful. But I always find myself going back to Fafi. Aileen and I are gonna dress up as Fafinettes this Halloween. Rainbow leg warmers, heart stamped cheeks, pouty lips, bright coloured wigs. Smorgasbord of Fun!

New Bed!

July 9, 2007 Art and Design, Cool Finds Comments

Went to the relatively new Ikea at the other end of the island and bought the Melda Daybed at a ridiculous price. Got myself a super flouncy mattress to go along with it. :D

This means I have to throw out the current bed, which is kinda wasteful cuz it is perfectly fine. BUT the new bed will create more space in my room. And therefore, I can practice dance in my room. Dance is a skill, people. And we shouldn’t put a price to that.

Speaking of rooms, decor8 was trying to get interior design inspirations through designer cakes. Very pretty!

Check out decor8 for more inspirations.

Thanks to emoticons, we can easily convey emotion or intent with common ASCII punctuation. While the smiley :-) is a fairly ubiquitous way to convey a pleasant mood or a statement with no malicious intent, many more moods and signifiers can be conveyed with the veritable language of emoticons using only one line of three or four characters. (via fractalspin.com) The less than three happens to be one of my favorites. <3

Greedy Monster

July 7, 2007 Blurbs, Cool Finds Comments

That’s the nickname people in my department gave me. It is spreading to the next department. High time to start defending myself against inaccurate accusations.

Dedrick says (12:31 PM):
you were bottle fed as a child issit? Is that why your mouth always itchy?
(*) n u n u says (12:32 PM):
hmm is there a link?
Dedrick says (12:34 PM):
yeah. some psychiatrist believe that a large part of adult psyche is developed from infancy. if i recall correct, some claim that an itchy mouth can be caused due to being bottle fed as an infant
(*) n u n u says (12:35 PM):
haha you can ask kevin, he also eat a lot
Dedrick says (12:36 PM):
that’s different. he’s a growing boy. and he hasn’t eaten galactus either.
(*) n u n u says (12:36 PM):
i DUN eat a lot lor, i didn’t even finish my beehoon
Dedrick says (12:37 PM):
okok! whatever you say! just dun eat me!

It’s hard.

Anyway, a new find before I head off to ping.sg party!

Buy Me Kisses

July 6, 2007 Blurbs, People Comments

Darling recently bought me and my family quite a number of stuff. When he handed them to me yesterday (he got me a Gucci wallet and a Coach key ring), I had this silly frown on my face, which probably left him quite perplexed. He thought I didn’t like them.

But one of my friend’s recent blog entry will put more sense into it.

Things are immaterial to me. I’m not touched when he bought all those stuff like Nintendo DS Lite, my shiny pink hand phone, my hip hop happening maroon shoes. I like these items cos I simply like them, but buying me things doesn’t touch my heart. I like morning kisses, good night kisses, hugs when I’m feeling down, someone to sayang my head. But he’s not a particularly touchy person, so there wasn’t much of it, and my heart was never touched completely by him.

See. For every insensible boyfriend out there, there’s a sensible girlfriend.

I do like the presents, I like them because he gave them to me. Just, you know…don’t have to spend money unnecessarily.

Well, at least this insensible boyfriend has loads of xoxo to spare. <3

Friday Flicks

Friday Flicks is a monthly activity where the coolest people gather every month to watch a democratically chosen movie.

This month, we are watching The Simpsons. The wikispace we are using to facilitate July’s outing is becoming very duh.

Pink Jr and I were at Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basic Concert last night. She was phenomenal! Amazing vocals, amazing stage presence, and she’s so so sooooo cute.

Catch a glimpse of the magic she made in Singapore. Oh my, I LOVE Christina!!! I told myself I’m not doing any teenybobbish stuff that would make Pink Jr embarrassed but we both screamed our lungs out last night. Nearly teared when she sang fighter because that’s one of my favourite songs and she’s just so great! *sigh* Marry me Christina.

Lyrics under the cut.
