My messy set of teeth.
View from the front, right and left respectively.
Put on my braces yesterday and it has been annoying me to no end. Abrasion, soreness, lingual braces snatching tongue space. Damn sad.
Never mind. I have a new toy, inherited a new ipaq from my Dad. Still trying to get Wifi to work.
Got this slick yummy gadget for Baby. He turned 26 yesterday. Happy birthday love!

Smashing Magazine recently posted an entry titled Creativity Spark From Masters Of Illustration, sparking a debate in the comments over the category of art they fall under, there are also accusations of author being biased or partial to a particular style.
Very interesting. I think classifying them under Illustrations is too wide, wider than graphics design. Whatever it is, here are my favorite works from the list, smorgasbord of visual orgasmic delight!
I’ve featured a few of them before, Nicholas Ainley for example, has better works in his portfolio. So remember to visit their portfolios, highlighting the works like this just doesn’t do them justice!

Visible Braces cost 5k and the Invisible Braces cost 7k
Haven’t really made up my mind so I’ve been asking around for opinions and the mixed responses left me undecided. Here are the justifications from both camps.
Pro Invisible People
Aileen: Lingual! Imagine networking with your braces, what kind of first impressions is that.
Dad: If it makes you happy, go for it! Don’t care what mummy says. (whee!)
Edgar: If you’re ugly then it doesn’t matter, with braces still ugly. For you different. (There is a counter argument from the other camp)
Edgar again: To answer your question, the year end bonus can cover the price difference already what.
Anti-invisible People
Baby: You’re pretty, wear braces also pretty (not convinced leh)
Sister: 2k can travel a lot of places! (traveling doesn’t appeal to me)
and………. The COMPLETELY OUT OF POINT
Mum: Why must you wear braces? You also not TCS actress what.
*ROAR*
I must mention that Baby is really quite rubbish. At first, he was on my Mum’s side, both of them happily ganged up against me. I can still remember the smirk on their faces as their opinions and assertions rained down on me. They knew that I was outnumbered, they were pleased.
Then my Dad popped by and said he’ll support whatever decision I make. I told Baby how my Dad is the best ever. In response, he promptly switched sides and proclaimed his unquestioning support on whatever choice I make.
My boyfriend can be so full of nonsense.
Illustrator
I would think that Disney has the best illustrators no?
Chris Sanders worked on a few Disney Feature Animations before making his directorial debut on Lilo and Stitch. Damn! There are just not enough sketches for me to gawk at. Hai.
Graphic Designer

I was less interested in illustrations and more drawn towards abstract digital graphics when I first became acquainted with Visual Arts.
Maciej Hajnrich is reminding me why. His works are breathtaking!
Digital Astronomy
I used to be obsessed with Astronomy, waiting till wee hours in the morning to catch a glimpse of constellations that mark the objects I want to see. I eventually lost interest after THE ARRIVAL of The INTERNET. It’s not hard to see why, when its power is boundless. Google demonstrates with GoogleSky, the latest version Google Earth with Sky Mode that lets you flip over and see the sky from the place you were centered on earth.

Too cool. The Internet 1 : Astronomy 0.
Personal Updates
My braces will cost me 7k. Top invisible, bottom ceramic. Ouch. I think I’ll have to forget about getting a new computer for like a million years. Extraction on Wednesday. Putting on my braces on Thursday!
This chromatic daybed belongs to Chezmai.
I love colours! Don’t you?
It’s Friday again, the week’s gone in a blink. Before I forget, some highlights.
- Watched Hairspray. Thanks to my college pal, who dropped the invites in my mailbox the night before (so nice!). A fun flick to watch. Very Grease.
- Watched Hostel: Part II. Torture porn. Some scenes are rather painful to watch but the plot is strangely captivating.
- Creative Commons Party in Velvet Underground, where I caught up a few editors from tomorrow.sg.
- Baby’s Mum knows how to make a mean makizushi.
- Wah Kee Big Prawn Noodles. Delicious and addictive. I’ve only tried the $10 version (gluttony is my sin). It goes really well with the lime juice available at the corner drink stall (near the main road).
- I had a consultation with my Orthodontist today, Dr Tan Kok Liang from Embrace. I’m still trying to decide between Ceramic and Lingual braces. Opinions are welcomed!
Did a short mention of Bibi in this entry on Feebee.
Bibi’s illustrations are one of the earlier ones I know and fallen in love with. My workspace is plastered with many of her bright cheery illustrations.
Although her girls don’t stick to a distinctive look, they vary with different projects she handles, they are all super lovely to look at.
Besides vector illustrations, Bibi is skilled in pixel art too (pixel art is a form of digital art where images are edited on the pixel level. – from wiki).
You can see more of her pretty works at her (korean) website.
Anyway, on a personal note. I’m going to get braces soon. The dentist told me there are crowding at the bottom row. Something I already know. The condition becomes especially apparent during Mid Autumn Festival, where deep imprints of my teeth appear on the mooncake after every bite. Every year, the mooncakes would taunt me. They say “Greedy monster, look at the state of your teeth!” *sighs* Maybe next year, things would get better.

Braces….bah!
I saw these Jordi Labanda damask style notebooks at KinoKuniya. Though pretty, they can’t open flat and can be quite a hassle to write on.
So I got myself a A6 3D Notebook instead. Priced at $10.90.
I have this habit of tossing random bits of information written on various scraps of paper into my huge mess of a bag. Information like textbooks to buy, places with good food, location and time of events I’m attending, things to be done etc. Sometimes, I don’t see these little notes until they are long overdue, so this little notebook should be pretty helpful. The pages have color indexing at the outer edge. Four different colors. I’ve allocated one for personal notes, one for work, one for school and one for expenditures. Perfect!
Anyway, I found this gem from the Jordi Labanda website. Too cute. Too bad it’s not available in KinoKuniya, it has the potential to make me quit Google calendar. And that’s saying a lot.
Weekend
Friday: New Media Convergent lecture in the evening. Dropped by Butter Factory later at night for a birthday party. It was fun and I didn’t want to leave! My poor boyfriend had to drag a very surly person home at 1am so that she can wake up for school the next morning. Honestly, I was really quite annoyed at him. 1am. Who the hell goes home at partypooperish 1am.
Saturday: Web Technologies class from 9 am to 4 pm. Had Crab Bee Hoon in Geylang for dinner. Major Yum!
Sunday: Dinner at ECP with Baby and his family.
Pink Jr (who really hates pink), my mum, Pamela and me!
New Find!

Fafi teamed up with Adidas before. I haven’t been following the collaboration closely so these shoes are probably available for sometime now.
I bought a pair of Nike sneakers just last week. After both my big toenails turned blue and died, it has become rather difficult for me to look any Adidas shoes with good grace. But…
Love.

Other Fafi stuff I found.
Click: Fafi’s Stationary!!!
Click: Fafi Cheki Box (Only available in Japan)
Fafi is the best.
PS: I think Aileen looks like one of the Fafinettes (Fafi’s Girls). Blah. I’m jealous.
Feebee: Stylish, oriental, “Vector-ish”, impressive attention to details, some of the gorgeous girls are sporting really beautiful tattoos. Art on art. Lovely. (Thanks Renee!)
Feebee’s style reminds me of Bibi, the latter being a little more cutesy but just as stylish and colourful. More about Bibi later.
Personal
Friend: join the dark side
Me: nooo
Friend: YESSS…i’ll give you a doughnut if you do
Me: not worth it
Friend: ok you tough bargainer….TWO doughnuts
Walao. This Gluttony reputation is hard to shed.
Anyway, “dark side” refers to World of Warcraft (several of my friends have recently joined). Although the Blood Elves are super hot, I can’t play. There can’t be a more effective career and academic suicide I think.
PS: Aileen baby was in Straits Times Newspaper yesterday, I’d be darn proud if I’m her mama. Check it! First page!

After my workout, my hair slightly damp with sweat, the mirror a lil rusty. Haha!
Baby once told me that I do look better with makeup on. Raur!
But he thinks I’m beautiful without them anyway, or even when I’m dressed in rags like this.
And that’s good enough. I don’t care what the rest of the world thinks.
Like Jordi Labanda, Catalina Estrada can be rather fashion-oriented. Besides style differences, Jordi Labanda’s illustrations are chic, therefore his fashion products are kinda self reflexive. Catalina’s illustrations are whimsical and lyrical, really pretty!

Weekend Highlights
- Met the dissertation supervisor on Saturday morning. She gave me a lowdown on the amount of work I need to complete over the next two semesters. The amount is some seriously scary shit is all I have to say.
- Dropped by Velvet Dragon on Saturday night. Leaving the club without the smell of smoke lingering on my hair and clothes is a nice change.
- Watched 881 on Sunday. It was alright I guess. A lil’ draggy, a lil’ lame, the redeeming factors are funny moments from Qi Yiwu and Liu Ling Ling.
- Had “zichar” for dinner at a coffee shop near my place. Mighty sinful. I didn’t know they use obscene amount of oil for hot plate bean curd. Yuck.
Moron: So what!? You’re not fat!
Neither do I want to die prematurely dumbass.
My Wednesday didn’t really go according to plan. Extract two of my wisdom teeth and finish Harry Potter I did. But I was late for dissertation discussion and missed my supervisor altogether, and I left lecture early because I couldn’t concentrate. As for Rush Hour 3… I reckon I watched like 10% of the movie? I slept through the rest. Judging from the clamorous guffaws (that snatched me from sleep several times) courtesy of an annoying idiot right behind me, I think it’s kinda funny? Then again, he could be mad. You might want to watch it and tell me what you think. Hai.
By the way, my wisdom teeth are huge and gross. They weigh at least 1 kg each. True story.
But I’m healing fast! In fact, I managed to get a little taste of Aston’s Wagyu Steak.
I don’t think they are that big a deal though.
Playing with some camera effects yesterday. I love this moonlight effect.

They should just rename it as Smurf effect. And little Smurfy here is executing a “this girl is retarded” expression.
The new iMac. Honestly, I was expecting something more.
Today’s mad. Presentation preparation in the morning. Tooth extraction at 2 pm, discuss paper with my dissertation supervisor at 4 pm (yes, what the hell, with my bloody mouth and all), first class of the semester from 6.30 to 9.45 pm, Rush Hour 3 Sneak Preview at 10.15 pm. And I’m gonna finish reading Harry Potter in any spare time, which is incidentally from 6.30 to 9.45 pm. Yup that’ll be enough, not much left to read.
I’m gonna finish reading the LAST Harry Potter book today! AHhhhhh I’m saaaaaaddddddd!
I said I was gonna talk about the first illustrator whose works I fell in love with. I think I declared my love for him a couple of times before, I just didn’t realize he’s considered THE first love until I thought about it.

Jordi Labanda <3
A lot of new stuff up since my last visit to his website. Jordi tends to be rather fashion oriented, reproducing his works on items such as bags and clothes, things I’m not particularly fascinated with. I am, however, a stationary junkie and I’m absolutely thrilled by his new stationary collection!
Weekend Report
Fri: Work. Bowling. Was supposed to go to some house party late at night but was too damn lazy.
Sat: Pasir Ris Pet Farm. Yorkshire Terries simply does it for me every time. Turns me into this gooey gushing schmuck. Movies + Dinner + Coffee/Wine. Was supposed to drop by Velvet Dragon later that night but I was having a bad stomachache, the need-to-shit kind. So I went home because I can’t simply shit in any random toilet, not that my butt is precious… when you suffer from constipation, you’ll know that right environment is imperative.
Sun: Monthiversary. <3

Pinkytoast used sell original paintings and dolls through ebay. They were all very pretty but way too expensive for me. Yesterday, I checked on her again and found out about her
etsy store, where she sells cheaper reprints and other charming little knick knacks.
Her inspirations…
Retro kitsch, fairy tales, little kiddles, mod fashion, blythe, dollfie, vintage rag dolls, sad clowns and circus shows, the melancholy of goth, and all things pink.
Yes yes…sounds perfect. I must get something.
So I was looking around searching for something that speaks to me…

And this one practically reached out, grabbed me and demanded to be displayed in my cubicle with paramount pride and glory. Don’t ask.
Anyway, I have a new gadget!

It looks so yummy! I haven’t test it out yet, but you can read the cnet reviews
here.
I once sent this song to someone I liked and he told me I’m childish.
But it’s a sweet love song! About falling in love, trust, basking in the magic of being with someone new and exciting, seeing the world in a new perspective cuz everything seems lovelier and brighter.
Childish!? Bah! Uncultured unimaginative git. I bet he still thinks it’s about two bored Arabian kids playing pretence with their parent’s carpet.
I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I’m way up here
It’s crystal clear
That now I’m in a whole new world with you
Now I’m in a whole new world with you
Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
A whole new world
Don’t you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath – it gets better
I’m like a shooting star
I’ve come so far
I can’t go back to where I used to be
A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment red-letter
I’ll chase them anywhere
There’s time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
A whole new world
That’s where we’ll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me
