2007 in Review

December 30, 2007 Joy, People Comments

I was reading some 2006 entries, my life was really quite different!

Dance and events was my rice bowl.
Dancing till dawn and club hopping was a weekly affair.
Privileges at various night spots was a big deal *roll eyes*.
Daily doses of Oprah.

And then we have 2007, the year where the world went on a conspiracy to make me happy.

2007

Work: Started work at a new place. And it’s no secret that I love it.

Marcus Tan: I met him at the start of the year under the most random circumstances. All I’ll say is that I was definitely NOT looking for love then.

School: Just the whole notion of being in school and doing something that seems like a lot of work to other people makes me feel damn hardworking and productive. Even if that’s not really the case.

People: Met hoards of people, some I totally admire. And there are those who will always be close to my heart, even though we may not meet up as often as before.

Family: I think we’re closer than ever. My parents see me as more of an adult (ABOUT TIME!), my mom sharing trashy gossips with me is a sure sign of that. Pamela becomes more of a friend. Pink Jr is still my lovable little sister, who seems like a few generations away. Just recently, the following conversation happened.

Pink Jr: Hey! Why you got this watch huh? (motion to my Birthday present from Paul)
Me: Why? Is it very hip? Is it very cool? Is it very IN with your friends now?
Pink Jr: Haha.
Me: So tell me, what’s cool with you kids these days?

Pink Jr is 15. I’m 25. In 10 years, I’ll be like Carrie Bradshaw being 35 and lamenting on how she’s not 25 anymore.

But I don’t think I’ll do that. I certainly do not wish to be 15 again. No, really.

I guess we each have our time, and when it passes, it passes. When I was 16, I thought that was my time. Right now, I think this could be it. But who knows, the future is boundless. And it is so close, I can almost touch it.

Ipod Art

December 28, 2007 Cool Finds Comments

One of the many perks of owning an ipod – getting a skin from GelaSkins!

After drooling over skins by Alex Noriega, Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki, Brandi Milne, Brandt Peters, Scott Saw, Stella Im Hultberg, Jenn Porreca and many more gorgeous ones from artists I haven’t read about, I picked out a few of my favorites.

152

I’ll wait a bit more. I’m hoping that the 3rd Gen Ipod Nano will inherit more illustrations from those that are already available to the 2nd Gen. I was at a store and they were selling them at S$49. Damn robbers.

Several clicks and I’m done. End of story. A concept unfamiliar to NUS students. Muahahaha!

Anyway, I don’t know if you’ve seen The Right Brain vs Left Brain test, it claims to identify the set brain functions you’re more inclined to use. My colleague says men tends to use the left brain and women the right. Gender divide is a good start because…

Herman: * RunDarrenRun’s Run? * says (10:42 AM):
i see clockwise
*{nu} ★▪▫▪(( RainbowBrite )) says (10:42 AM):
i see both. I WIN!
Herman: * RunDarrenRun’s Run? * says (10:42 AM):
no i win… cos.. i can see her nipples! woohoo!
*{nu} ★▪▫▪(( RainbowBrite )) says (10:43 AM):
men

We are indeed, different.

Xmas Is

Christmas is Family Dinner on Christmas Eve. I bought all the food. *Hangs head in shame* I think my resolution for 2008 is to be able to prepare a dinner like that, without resorting to buying ready-to-eat food. That means turning on the charms and seducing Baby into cooking. Oh wait… coercion alone will do. Hah! My new year’s resolution is too easy, consider it done.

Christmas is Starbucks and its Toffee Nut Latte. The packaging alone is Christmas!

Christmas is pretty little presents and surprises, nice notes and well wishes.

Christmas is “All I Want for Christmas is You” playing in my head, on repeat, since November.

Christmas Day is waking up to what seems like an extra special Sunday Morning, looking forward to a day of absolutely nothing to do.

Earlier today, I accompanied Baby to the airport. He was such a darling, hugging a groggy me until I told him to quit embarrassing me. He’s joining his family for a few days in Shanghai before flying back on New Year’s Eve. It’s gonna be hard when he works in Shanghai proper. I’m really not looking forward to it but we’ll see how it goes.

Before I sign off, a Christmas Song I love. I like Christina Aguilera’s version.

In these moments, moments of our lives
All the world is ours, and this world is so right
You and I sharing this time together
Sharing the same dream
As time goes by we will find

These are the special times, times we’ll remember
These are the precious times
The tender times, we’ll hold in our hearts forever
These are the sweetest times, these times together
And through it all one thing will always be true
The special times are the times I share with you

New Masthead

December 24, 2007 Art and Design Comments

xmas

The design bug bit me, I made a new masthead but got too lazy about the rest of the website. So now my website looks mostly Wintry (original colours), but with an awkward spot of autumn in the center. The design bug clearly didn’t know what Christmas was about.

This horrible clash of colors and refusal to do anything more marks a very unprofessional designer. But I’m not a designer! Hohoho! Give thanks to small blessings. Merry Christmas!

New Baby

December 21, 2007 Joy Comments

The new favorite gadget. I’m wondering if I could change it to black one instead, since I’m an ungrateful grit, unappreciative of the original choice of color.

I’m going to get a sports kit so Herman can finally shut up about how wonderful it is.

Anyway, thank you Baby Number One! I love the present!

Last but not least, my exams results are out! The grades aren’t splendid but I’m still on track for graduation at the middle of next year, so it’s all good.

It seems like this year is going to end well. Counting down to Christmas!

They’re Back!

December 18, 2007 People Comments

Parents and Pink Jr are back from Europe. We were buzzing around the house till late, being our silly selves. Sister and I were checking out all the munchies, chocolates and cookies and….. Krispy Kreme!!!! Actually, nobody wants them. Poor famous Doughnuts, they were shocked and unhappy.

Anyway, my mum is totally biased. She got the boyfriend a name card holder from Louis Vuitton. She got me one miserable packet of Chocs! One packet! They’re not even in a proper box! We shared the umbilical cord, does that not mean anything anymore? Tsk.

Still, it’s great having everyone back. Sometimes, I feel like we’re in some family sitcom, starring…

The oblivious to social etiquette but very sweet and loving Dad.
The professionally sarcastic and a little bimbotic Mum.
The queer and cute little Pink Junior.
The I’m too cool for these people and I like them anyway Pamela.
The lazy and vain Big Sister (me!).

A family of oxymorons.

I’m not really vain lah, it’s just that my family is not vain at all.

Because of this and a whole lotta unspoken (but obvious) love we have for each other. We’re perfect.

Domesticated

December 16, 2007 Blurbs Comments

Baby kissed me goodbye and went out to watch a soccer match with his buddies. Typical guy stuff.

After bidding him goodbye, I watered the plants, mopped the house and watched bits of Star Awards. Typical Auntie stuff. What’s missing is a pot of herbal soup bubbling in the kitchen, waiting for his return.

I feel so…. auntie.

We were on our way to Ikea, bought some Christmas decorations for a Family Christmas Party and various knick knacks.

I totally need to party soon. Oh yea, DND. Tomorrow. I can’t find my dancing boots.

Company’s Dinner and Dance come Monday. The Director told us to go back early that day and that we can come in at noon the following day. Nice!

The theme of the event is “Lace, Denim and Leather”. So I went shopping for clothes to fit the theme but I couldn’t find anything I like. I really don’t like shopping for clothes. Lazy to find, lazy to fit. Annoying girls at every turn, sales girls breathing down your neck. They should have vending machines for clothes. It’ll be like online shopping without the wait and shipping costs.

10 things a vending machine should have

- Clothes
- Shoes
- Sushi
- Vanilla Latte
- My boyfriend
- Coffee Bean’s Caesar Salad
- Bread and Butter Pudding
- Fluffy Pancakes
- Fish Soup
- Wireless Broadband Access

Love in my Tummy

December 11, 2007 Love Comments

The Spoilt Brat cooked for me last night! He told me he cooked all the time when he was living in Australia, so he knows his way around the kitchen. Indeed!

The Process…

Process

The Food!

finished

The Stir-fry Beef with Ginger and Spring Onion is the best I’ve ever had. My sister loves the soup, which was all we left for her anyway. The broccoli has the most gorgeous color and sheen. The picture looks even better in its original resolution.

Anyway, baby is fetching me to and from work until my Dad returns. I told him I’m fine, I enjoy taking the public transport anyway. But he insists that taking the train is very sad. The thought if it makes him go “Awww….so poor thing….”

Tsk. The Nerve. Insulting a whole horde of very grumpy people who ride the train every morning. They look capable of shoving anyone into incoming trains. Go ahead and mob him, I promise to stand aside as long as I’m not hurt.

Lovely art, awesome website, nothing you wouldn’t like. Check out freebies for the prettiest wallpapers, I just wish they come in higher resolutions.

Baby wants me write about the roses he got me. They’re nothing because he is much sweeter than that. Heh.

Colour Plaids

December 1, 2007 Art and Design Comments

http://www.scholtenbaijings.com/

Scholten & Baijings’ richly and vividly coloured plaids create a colour explosion in the interior. The designs of these blankets consist of interrupted colour sequences. It’s these vivid stripes and the multitude of colours that make the Colour Plaids unique.

It is therefore not surprising that the fabrics were woven by the Dutch weaving mill De Ploeg which has been working closely with leading designers since 1923.

The blankets are made of Merino wool and cotton, which makes them super soft! You can use them in countless ways: to wrap around yourself, lie beneath, decorate your bed or sofa, or give an old piece of furniture a new lease of life.

*Heart* I want….they look so snuggly and warm. Singapore’s too cold for me. I think I’m classifying them as a need. Hmm… I spy a Panton Chair beneath the green-black blanket. My chair needs some draping over too.

By the way, the Panton Chair is from the Pop Art Movement.
