Girly Art

January 28, 2008 Art and Design, Love Comments

Here’s an artist I’ve not featured before. Sometimes, I learn about the art through the artists themselves and I’m particularly psyched to hear from him because look how cute his girls are! Visit Luke Feldman.

Baby says he’s jealous so I shall tell you about one talent Baby have! I have Brain Age (DS lite) and one of its mini games is to solve a number of mathematical equations in the least amount of time. He solves them faster than I can read. That, dear friends, is my definition of sexy.

Over the weekend, we bought a us couple rings (those selling in bits and pieces, couples lab etc). I call them stupid rings because I thought I should be at a point where I find them juvenile. I was the one who came up with the whole idea. I want them but I felt a need to throw insults to show Baby that I am really beyond all these cheap concepts of couplehood. Yea, so much for not being juvenile.

He wanted to get a proper pair of rings but I refused because I’m not letting anyone ruin my wedding band moment. You know what I mean?

So anyway, we’ll be wearing the rings on the 2nd of Feb, cuz it’s a special day for us. Hahaha.

You know, being romantic is often embarrassing, sometimes eccentric. But you write about it anyway, because you realize you’re actually quite proud of being in love.

Vinyl Art

January 24, 2008 Art and Design, Snapshots Comments

So brilliant I could weep! Check out his video, it is deeply deeply inspiring. I wrote about many designers before but it takes a while for one to come along and blow your mind away. Creating these in illustrator is impressive enough, people make a living out of that. Jorge Oswaldo goes on and creates these beautiful vinyl art!!! Ahhh! Kill me already!

On other stuff, I saw this usb camera yesterday.

How cute! Very tempting to get me one and go snap snap snapping away. But recently, I find it more fun to take videos. A video translates to a lot of pictures to choose from and priceless entertainment browsing through frames of Aileen’s gravity defying hair and Paul’s face distorted in motion. The ugliest picture of me I can find is this.

Less than a month after I got mine, Apple introduces a pink nano. Why am I not surprised.

Here is pink taunting at me. She says “Raw and scary? Pink overdose? Look at me now. I’m fabulous and I’m not taking you back.”

*{nu} ★▪▫▪((Rabbit)) says (9:23 AM):

(*)m a r c u s says (9:24 AM):

Weekends

Friday: First run in ages and it was painful. Seafood soup at Woodlands Town Centre.
Saturday: Breakfast of pig’s innards soup. Kidney, liver, stomach. Yum. Shopping in Orchard and City Hall. I blogged about a yogurt that tastes like heavenly cream cheese months back. I saw an outlet in Takashimaya! A new phone (thanks Baby). Home-made Sushi. Cooking Mama Craze.
Sunday: Kaya toast and eggs. Hearty Fish Soup. Snuggles in the afternoon. Cream cheese tarts. No Reservations. Miami Ink and La Ink.

If I ever go to Miami or LA Ink. I’m definitely getting a tattoo. Pixie has the cutest tattoos ever. She has a sleeve featuring The Care Bears and it looks cool nonetheless. I want Rainbow Brite.

I don’t think I can simply walk into any tattoo shop to get one. Isn’t tattoo like art? Meaning you need to know about the artists and their style before deciding? A tattoo is something I’d like to have but not now anyway, not when all I know about them come from hit TV shows.

There’s no other man I’m this loyally crazy about. Baby is not too affected but he’s not too impressed either. I almost died laughing when I saw Napolean Dynamite. That has got to be one of the best 3 seconds of my life.

Anyway, I’m adding a photography category to my blog. I’m always stumbling upon beautiful works.

Fafi and MAC

January 16, 2008 Cool Finds Comments

Excerpts from this entry.

“Fafi was born and raised in Toulouse France and is a huge presence in the graffiti and fine arts scene. Her talent was noticed in 1994 and as she was painting and hustling, her sexy, funny, and sometimes aggressive girl characters made the whole world look and help start a new graphic language by exploring femininity through stereotypes and using it to her advantage. She gained enormous attention and begin to travel the world. She begin to collaborations with LeSportSac, Coca-Cola, Colette, and Adidas just to name a few. She is the created the hugely popular Fafinettes (very girly girl characters) which paints all over Paris. But the super cool and funky Fafi has lent her hand to MAC. The three lovely Fafinettes she has created for MAC are Ericko, Monoka and Ermine.”

Sorry, but Miss Van started the whole femininity through stereotypes graffiti movement, at least in Toulouse. Fafi have since turned to commercialism while Miss Van ventured into fine arts. Miss Van wins.

Just posting this up since a handful of people have been informing me about the collaboration between Fafi and MAC. I didn’t write about this before because I’m anti MAC. Its liquid foundation made me breakout big time before, I’m entitled to be prejudiced.

Anyway, check out the MacBook Air if you haven’t. Apple has the knack of coming out with beautiful products that make people go “How did the world survive without this?”. How indeed, I wonder if the old Macbook ever cripple anyone with gravity.

The State of Things

January 15, 2008 Personal Comments

The things that need to be done.

School: Literature review for Intelligent Systems, Literature review for Wi-Fi in Singapore, meeting with IDA guy for a school project, catching up on the classes I’ve missed, buying my textbooks for the semester.

Work: Hmm rather not talk about it, don’t wanna risk getting arrested.

Want: Read Shopaholic and Sister (I’m slow), play Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, secret mission that I started yesterday, secret project that I’m thinking about, finish watching Sex in the City, design a new layout.

No choice: Shop for CNY clothes, spring clean my room.

Currently, the Wants are taking up most of my time.

Anyway, I found this. I like it. Visit the//state//of//things.

Innocent illustrations with ominous undertones. Or an abiding world saved by a dash of creativity. Things are never as simple as half full or half empty.

I’ve got spirit fingers, how about you?

Smashing Magazine rounded up 100 fantastic wordpress themes for download. A good handful of them are so cute, they belong in my pocket. Out of sight. All for myself. Like the ones below.

So download away wordpress folks! We need to infuse the web of ubiquitous blog layouts with more beauty and good taste. WordPress is love.

Ten Years

January 7, 2008 Nerdette Comments

I realized something today. I started my personal website 10 years ago (but technically I’ve been online before that).

The web was a much different place than. Blog engines didn’t exist so you have to code your updates manually. Imagine that!

My old website still exists, below is a screen capture from the “About Me” page.

1

I’m Da CrEaToR yo. Da creator with the alternate CAPS and asterisks AND tildas. I was beyond cool.

The first few graphics I ever did are for site awards. If you haven’t heard about the site awards of yesteryears. Uh, don’t bother.

1

Truth to be told, I did not start my web presence with a personal homepage. My website started from a noble desire to educate the world with Interesting Facts From Around The World!!!

2

I used to wonder about the motivations behind this website. I started one because the web was so mysterious back then, a yahoo gateway to a whole new world of yucky typography and hideous clip arts, what a novelty. It soon became a hobby that nobody I knew (in real life) had and I liked that. These days, maintaining this website has become some sorta habit with no good reason to let go. To put it simply, why not?

But today, I found a new motivation. That is to look back at this 10 years later and wonder what the hell was I thinking.

Interesting Facts from Around the World. Wtf?

Going Upslope

January 5, 2008 Joy, Love Comments

I was a speaker at a webmasters conference, I was supposed to be the expert in New Media. There were more than 200 people in attendance and it was especially unnerving when the other speakers have decades of working experiences under their belt. There is this guy who is the Head of this, previously the Director of that, was a Professor at two universities, plus many more “what more do you want” achievements according his speaker’s profile.

But it went alright, I managed to pull a few chuckles here and there. I do like presenting (when fully prepared) and weirdly enough, I’ve learned that the success of my presentations have a lot to do with microphones. Give me a microphone and I don’t ever wanna let go.

The chill out session with my secondary school friends went well too. We were at Sylvia’s lovely new place. Although I’ve been there a couple of times before, it looks so much better with lively people around.

I’m signing off before Baby pulls a grumpy face. His grumpy face is really cute though. Here, look.

Hahaha. Happy Monthiversary Love!

The art of assembling these little details is an art to be mastered. Via Decor8.

To be honest, the year is not starting well. I’m having a horrible breakout due to reasons unknown. At 25! Talk about adding insult to the injury. Dear skin, you are 25. Cut yourself some slack. Sheesh.

In addition, my orthodontist attached rubber bands to the braces yesterday (to close up the gaps) and my teeth hurts like hell now.

Actually, this is all. I’m sure things will pick up soon. I have a presentation later, the arrival of the moment I say “So this is the end of my presentation, thank you,” is certainly something to look forward to. I’m also meeting my friends for pizza after work. Then there’s my Baby and all his nonsense. And I might dye my hair red this weekend. January is gonna rock. I’m gonna make sure of that.

Family Matters

January 3, 2008 Art and Design, People Comments

Dim Sum

One of the few things we have in common. Dim Sum in the Morning!

We had a family fight last Sunday. Tempers flared, doors slammed. There were yelling through the walls and for a while, each of us were pissed at one another for different reasons. People should capture things like these, they are funnier (in retrospect) than videos clips of pseudo grins and exaggerated happiness.
