In July, my complexion is monstrous. I’m tending to a month of shitty temper because of this.

I caught Inception and love love love it. There’s a nice analysis about the movie being self-reflexive, which made brilliant sense. But thanks Smarty, for ruining the movie somewhat.

I thought Inception would be something like Donnie Darko, that after being mindfucked, and after scouring through The Internet for answers, you still can’t wrap any logic about the worm tunneling, time traveling, bewildering cult classic that is Donne Darko. But oh well, good expensive try, Nolan.

Nice trend in theory but application needs to be treated with caution, or risk looking like a field of trampled daisies.

I seem to be the only one around hooked on “The City” while the rest of the world fuss over “Glee”. I swear it’s not as trashy as “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills” or even “Gossip Girl”. Olivia Palermo is a real life Blair Waldorf, such a mean bitch but so so pretty.

The first 10 episodes of season one are crap it gets good from episode 14 onwards. The Hills has been consistently going downhill on the other hand.

I made many good friends over the years, a good portion of them moved on marriage and motherhood. I felt like they have left me at the playground all by myself. While I was building sand castles and waiting for the maternal instinct to kick in, these three ladies came along. And together we headed towards the swings.

Did I say perfect? Oh, the nerve to imply I have what you seek. But perfection is a perception, my perception. So no, I do not hold wads of cash nor do I have access to endless supply of cheap labor, or any other goals you may seek. M O V I E S / P L A Y S

Kick-Ass: A movie me and imdb disagree with violently. To me, it is Kill Bill with Superheroes, unoriginal. Besides, I seemed to tune in to a very different frequency of humor, I hardly laughed despite guffaws from the whole theater. Star of the show Hit Girl wasn’t my cup of tea either, I felt a bit uncomfortable looking at a kid indulging in violence for entertainment’s sake.

Ironman 2: Technology showcase. Yes, we know you have cool technology, move on with the story already. I have a sneaky suspicion that Steve Jobs is playing consultant.

Ip Man: It is impossible to dislike Ip Man. I do not appreciate the shallow characterization, playing too heavily on stereotypical nationality traits. Still, it works. You cannot help cheering for the Chinese.

Shutter Island: Leonardo DiCaprio! *pants* I do not want to spoil the plot in anyway but I’ll say this, watch it.

Wo(men): It’s a play about entrapment and its evolution through three generations. First generation setting the trap for the second generation into her ideal world, second generation doesn’t know she’s trapped and third generation fighting her way out into another trap. A self-reflexive play that mirrors how the cast is always trapped in their characters and how scenes are always trapped on the stage. It also shows how sometimes, absence is more obvious than being present, Wo(men) is woven around the lack of men. Might be the reason why the title draws attention to that. All in all, a good production from new player, NUS Stage. Bravo!

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle: Haruki Murakami spins spectacular, wildly imagined stories and sometimes make you gasp in surprise. Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is one of my favorites from this writer.

The Lovely Bones: Real page turner, but I thought it got a little bland near the end.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven: I like Tuesdays with Morrie, and Mitch Albom attempts to reconnect in similar ways but this time I didn’t buy into the story.

I completed the design a while back, coding took a bit of procrastination. Design is always fun while coding a tad frustrating. As always, it is not 100% done. Like Upwards doesn’t make sense but it is suppose to dynamically open up a top section of “Heaven” when you click on it, where it houses more information about the website. Can you imagine that? Yes? Then consider it done!

Ok I’m planning to share this as a free wordpress theme after I’m sick of it so I’ll have to fix that one day.

I haven’t done anything graphics intensive in a really long while so this is really a warm up. I need to practice my skills and train my eyes more. So much to do, so little time.

Since I’m almost out, here’s an objective view on the local IDM Industry. The government is really trying their best. Creating industry initiatives, streamlining funding mechanisms and developing IDM the ecosystem in two years is no easy feat. And do you know how small the team is? We worked like a start-up despite being a government agency. Hats off to Michael Yap for the shitload of work he has deal with, including the occasional drama spun from restless entrepreneurs.

Also this month, the family had dinner at Triple 3 for my Mum’s birthday. I’m not a big fan of buffets, I prefer my food served pretty on a plate, being the aesthetic nut that I am. However, Triple 3 was good, I like it far better than the popular The Line at Shangri-La (better known as high class food court in my book, food court nonetheless)

Last but not least, I’m learning how to drive! At last! It has been on my new year’s resolution list for ages. I’m already at a point where I’m embarrassed to blog about it. I hope my eyes are still good.

When I’m on the hunt for new local fine dining restaurants to visit, Chubby Hubby is my bible and Ladyironchef my kama sutra. I know it looks wrong for the bible & kama sutra to share a sentence, but when it comes to good food, sin is the essence. Best example of food so wrong yet so right – Foie Gras.

They (Chinese) say when your career and love is flourishing. Your health must be failing. I wonder how true is that. My skin is crap. That much is true.

By the way, I’m also a Mac user now. And guess what? It is SO overrated! All you Apple Fanboys are so drama. Designers prefer Mac is unfounded. I should have known, when people who made that claim are not designers themselves. Curious curious curious. Who was the winning marketer who managed to churn out a rumour that spread like wildfire, an urban legend that remains a legend.

Verdict: Both PC and Mac has its pros and cons. I would say the Mac is more idiot proof and is suitable for a larger portion of the population. Why then, is the world dominated by PCs? We owe it to the Genius that is Bill Gates of course. My hero now and forever.
